Shutdown: A mid-level reset (level 2)

Reading time: 3 minutes

Experiencing minor glitches with your Sound Capsule? Resetting it might be the quickest solution to get things back on track.

Example:

If your Space Recorder's display incorrectly shows a Stellar Microphone as docked when it's not, a swift reboot is often all it takes to resolve this.

Understanding the different types of resets:

There are three levels, or three methods, to perform reset of your Sound Capsule:

  1. Reboot: A gentle reset, similar rebooting a computer or smartphone.
  2. Shut Down: A deeper reset, equivalent to powering off your computer and restarting it. This is what we'll focus on in this guide.
  3. Factory Reset: Restores your Sound Capsule to its factory settings, as if it's brand new.

Will I loose my recordings if I perform a shutdown?

No!

A shutdown is completely safe. It won't affect your recordings, user settings, or workspace. There's no risk of data loss or even being logged out.

Important: Do not initiate a shutdown while recording, as it will disrupt and fail to save the ongoing recording.

How to Shut Down Your Sound Capsule

A shutdown takes about 45 seconds. Step-by-step instructions:

Step 1

  • Remove the Space Recorder from it's charging dock.

You won't be able to trigger a shutdown if the Space Recorder is still on its charging dock.

Step 2

  • Ensure there's no USB cable or charging cable connected to your Sound Capsule. If there is, unplug the cable.

Step 3

Perform the shutdown.

  • Press and hold the left button (with a downward arrow) and the right button (colored red) for about 15 seconds. Ignore any prompts to reboot that appear after around 5 seconds. Keep holding the buttons until the screen turns black.

Step 4

When this final screen displays, your device is ready to resume recording.

Step 5

  • Check if the shutdown resolved your issue. Did it solve the issue?

Yes: That's great!

No: Attempt a few more shutdowns. If the problem persists, consider a factory reset.

Considering a factory reset?

A factory reset will revert your Sound Capsule to its original state, erasing all stored recordings from the recorder. Ensure you have backed up your recordings to your Cloud account before proceeding.
