Guide: How to update your devices

Make sure you always have the latest updates from Nomono! We regularly release updates for all our products and services.

Why should I upgrade?

Our updates may include a variety of improvements, from bug fixes and performance enhancements to exciting new features. We always recommend updating when a new one is available to ensure you get the best experience and performance.

In this article, we'll guide you through the update process for:

  1. Nomono Sound Capsule
  2. Nomono Companion App
  3. Our Nomono Cloud Services

Let's start with the Sound Capsule!

How do I know if there's an update available?

Step 1:

Start by checking the most recently released software version.

We maintain a dedicated updates overview page where we always provide information about the latest software version released. You can access this page by clicking here.

Step 2:

Next, find out what software version your Sound Capsule is currently running on.

We've created a page that guides you on how to check the current software version of your Sound Capsule. You can access this page by clicking here.

Step 3:

Now, compare the software version name from step 2 to the one in step 1.

  • If they match, that's great news – your Sound Capsule is already up to date!
  • If they don't match, there's an update waiting for you. Please continue reading to learn how to update your Sound Capsule.

Updating your Sound Capsule:

When we ship your Sound Capsule, it most likely contained an older firmware version installed by our manufacturer.

To ensure you have the latest and greatest software update, please update your Sound Capsule by following the guide below.

Step 1:

  • Wake up your Sound Capsule by removing the lid.

Step 2:

Depending on multitude of factors (for example if your Space Recorder currently is connected to Wi-Fi or not), a prompt for an update may or may show on it's screen.

Do you see an update?

Great, let' update it.

  1. This is how the update notification would look like.
  2. Click the middle button to update.

Don't see any update?

If no prompt for updating your Sound Capsule is shown, this does not mean there's not an update available.

First, the update doesn't show up until it's downloaded and ready to install on your device. So, just wait a few minutes as the update may be slower to download depending on your network speed.

If the update still doesn't appear after a few minutes, please proceed to step 3.

Step 3:

  • Grab your mobile phone.
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile phone.

Step 4:

  • Open the Companion App on your mobile phone.

Step 5:

  • Tap your Sound Capsule.

Step 6:

  • Tap the settings icon.

Step 7:

In the settings page, ensure your Sound Capsule is connected to Wi-Fi. You will not be able to update without Wi-Fi.

Step 8:

When connected to Wi-Fi, an update may appear in the settings page.

Don't see any update?

If no prompt for updating your Sound Capsule is shown, please proceed to step 9.

Do you see an update?

Great, let's update it.

  1. This is how the update notification would look like.
  2. Click the middle button to update.

Now, your Sound Capsule is up to date and ready for action! There's no need to continue to step 9.

However, if the update did not appear and you haven't updated your Sound Capsule, please proceed to step 9.

Step 9:

You will now perform a shutdown (reset) of your Space Recorder to initiate the update.

A shutdown is completely safe. It won't affect your recordings, user settings, or workspace. There's no risk of data loss or even being logged out.

  • Remove the Space Recorder from it's charging dock. You won't be able to trigger a shutdown if the Space Recorder is still on its charging dock.

Step 10:

Perform the shutdown.

  • Press and hold the left button (with a downward arrow) and the right button (colored red) for about 15 seconds. Ignore any prompts to reboot that appear after around 5 seconds. Keep holding the buttons until the screen turns black.


Step 11:

You may or may not receive a notification on the Sound Capsule's screen regarding the new update.

Did it appear?

Yes: Great! Continue to step 12.

No: Please try step 10 a couple times more.

Step 12:

  1. This is how the update notification will look like.
  2. Click the middle button to update.

Now, your Sound Capsule is up to date and ready for action!

Updating your Companion App:

Updating the Companion App is similar to updating any other app on your mobile phone. Typically, updates are installed automatically if certain conditions are met. These conditions may vary based on your mobile phone's settings, but the most common ones include:

  • The device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • The device is charging.
  • The device is idle (not actively used).
  • The Companion App is not running in the foreground.

Updating your Nomono Cloud account:

You don't need to worry about updating Nomono Cloud. All updates are managed by our Nomono team, so you can simply enjoy your cloud services without thinking about updates.
