Long before we learned to write, we shared knowledge and feeling through our voices. That hasn’t changed. Even in a world of screens and endless content, the human voice still carries something text alone can’t: presence, tone, the sense of actually being there. Nomono builds the tools that capture real voices, in real rooms, exactly as they happened — and turns them into stories the world can hear.

4+ years of spatial audio
Nomono spinoff from SINTEF
Removing complexity from audio production
Nomono was founded in Trondheim, Norway in 2019 as a spinoff from SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research institutes, after more than four years of spatial audio research. The goal: bring immersive, broadcast-quality recording out of the lab and into the hands of journalists, podcasters, and storytellers everywhere.
Because despite massive advances in video, mobile, and AI, high-quality audio is still hard. Recording outside a studio means technical complexity, wasted time, and unpredictable results. Great stories go untold because capturing them well is too difficult.
Our founding insight: audio quality is decided the moment it’s captured — not fixed afterwards. So that’s where we focus. Not on cleaning things up after the fact, but on getting it right at the source — removing noise, holding onto space and context, and bringing forward what matters while it’s still happening. We set out to remove the complexity from audio production and make quality automatic.

More and more of the voices you hear today are synthetic — generated to sound human without ever having been one. We’re building the opposite: technology that captures and understands real voices, from real conversations, in real places. Because when it matters what actually happened — what was said, by whom, with what emotion, in what room — you need it captured right from the start. You can’t fix that later.

Our vision reaches far beyond where we are today. As voice becomes central to how people — and machines — communicate, we’re building toward becoming the platform for spoken audio: the definitive tools for capturing and understanding real voices in an AI-first world. Shaped by the same curiosity and care that got us started.
