The Nomono Sound Capsule costs $1,188. That price covers the hardware (the Space Recorder, four Stellar wireless mics and the charging case) and includes a year of Studio Cloud Premium for editing, AI enhancement and transcription.

Key takeaways

  • The Sound Capsule costs $1,188 for a complete four-person recording kit.
  • Hardware and software come together: the recorder, four mics, the case and cloud editing are one price.
  • The cheaper Nomono option is the Stellar Kit at $348, with two mics instead of four.
  • A comparable wired four-person desk costs $2,229.65 as a RØDE kit at B&H, with no editing software included.

What $1,188 buys

The price covers a complete four-person recording kit and includes the first year of cloud post-production. The charging case holds the Space Recorder, which has an 8-mic ambisonic array and sits on the table between guests, and four Stellar wireless mics that clip to each speaker. The whole kit weighs 2.9 lb (1.3 kg).

It records for up to 10 hours on a charge, plus 15 more from the case, for up to 25 hours. The Space Recorder stores up to 12 hours internally (64 GB) and records without a phone or laptop. Voice tracks are 16-bit/48 kHz, the spatial track is 24-bit/48 kHz, every mic levels itself automatically, and the recording is Dolby Atmos-ready. Files upload to Studio Cloud automatically, or you can export over USB.

The Premium plan included in that price gives you:

What the Sound Capsule costs after year one

After the first year you can stay on the Free plan or continue Studio Cloud from $29/month (Professional) or $99/month (Premium); the hardware keeps working either way. Nomono emails you 30 days before renewal so you can choose: move to the Free plan, stay on monthly billing, switch to yearly billing or change to a different plan. The renewal pays for software only; you are not buying the hardware again.

Two things to weigh before you decide. First, the hardware works without a subscription, so a team that records in bursts can drop to the Free plan between projects and keep recording. Second, the warranty: all hardware has a one-year warranty, which extends to a lifetime warranty for as long as you stay on a paid plan. Full details are on the Studio pricing page.

Total cost over three years

ScenarioYear 1Year 2Year 33-year total
Premium, monthly the whole time$1,188$1,188$1,188$3,564
Premium in year 1, then Free plan$1,188$0$0$1,188
Professional (Stellar Kit), monthly$348$348$348$1,044

The gap between staying on Premium and moving to the Free plan is $2,376 over three years, and it comes down to how much cloud editing you actually use. A weekly show that runs AI enhancement and transcription on every episode will use the Premium allowance. A team that records a few projects a year and edits in software it already owns may not need it. Yearly billing after year one is an option too; check the pricing page for the current yearly rate.

Professional vs Premium: which plan fits

Nomono hardware comes with one of two paid plans, and the plan you pick decides which kit ships. Both include the first year of Studio Cloud in the price.

The price difference is $840. For that, Premium adds two more mics, the Space Recorder with its spatial array, the charging case, more enhancement minutes and a second editor. If you record solo or one-on-one, start with Professional; our guide to podcast kits for 2 people compares it with other two-person setups. There is also a Free plan that needs no hardware, so you can try the editor on recordings you already have.

How the price compares with other four-person setups

No other kit in our comparisons bundles four wireless mics, a spatial recorder and editing software in one price, so the fair comparison is a setup you build yourself. Prices below are US list or street prices checked in late September 2026.

Hardware-only setups also need an editing tool. For reference, Descript Creator is $35 a month or $24 a month billed yearly, Auphonic M is $30 or $25, and Alitu is $38 or $32. Those tools are not like-for-like with Studio Cloud, but they show that editing is a recurring cost whichever hardware you choose. What the price does not cover

  • 32-bit float. The Sound Capsule records voices at 16-bit/48 kHz with automatic levelling. RØDE Wireless PRO and DJI Mic 3 record 32-bit float, but cover two people per kit.
  • XLR inputs. You cannot plug a wired studio mic into the Space Recorder.
  • Timecode. Video teams that need timecode should look at RØDE Wireless PRO or DJI Mic 3. Studio Cloud offers audio-video sync instead.
  • Physical faders and sound pads. If your show mixes live at one desk, a console such as the RØDECaster Pro II is the better tool.

Who the Sound Capsule price makes sense for

The $1,188 price is easiest to justify for teams that record three or four people in different places: newsrooms interviewing on location, agencies recording at client offices, schools and universities running a portable studio, and podcast teams that record panels away from a fixed desk. Solo hosts and two-person shows should price the Stellar Kit first. A studio that never leaves the building may get more for the money from a console. Schools can also see the Nomono for education page.
